The Makana Winds of Change Community Trust is administered by a Board of Trustees, tasked with managing and administering the Trust for the benefit of the members of the communities situated within a 50km radius of the Waainek Farm in the Eastern Cape.
The Waainek Wind Farm is a 23.6 MW wind farm comprising of 8 Vestas turbines. The Department of Energy approved the project in Round 2 of the REIPPPP.
It is situated on farmland just outside of Grahamstown and has been fully operational since January 2016.
The Makana Winds of Change Community Trust holds 26% of the shares in the project company.
VISION, AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The vision of the Trust is to promote, support and contribute to the socio-economic development of the members of the beneficiary communities.
In order to bring this vision to life, the Trust invests in projects and initiatives that further the socio-economic objectives and needs identified in the communities.
Ultimately, the goal of the Trust is to invest in projects and initiatives that empower the beneficiaries to improve their personal socio-economic circumstances and, as a result, those of their respective communities.
