The Makana Winds of Change Community Trust (MWoCCT) opened a call for proposals for the 2022 funding cycle which opened on the 8th of September and closed on the 1st of October 2021. The trust’s main objective is to reduce unemployment, increase youth development through motivation, life skills, and sports and recreation activities through funded organisations.

The Trust MWoCCT encouraged suitable community-based organisations (CBOs) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) operating in Makhanda and surrounding areas, to apply to be considered for 2022 funding.

To initiate the process, posters and flyers (see above) detailing the call were distributed in public service locations easily accessible to the community such as the public library, town hall and the municipal building. The Makana economic development department and community trustee assisted with putting the adverts on their social media platforms and sharing it with their stakeholders. A total of Five (5) expressions of interest have since been received.

Shortlisted organisations will be informed of a site visit to be undertaken by Knowledge Pele. The purpose of this visit will be to observe facilities, interact with staff and beneficiaries, and ensure that organisations are indeed making a verifiable impact in their communities. After the site visit, organisations will then be sent an application form of which they have to complete and submit with supporting documents such as their proposed budget and registration documents. The appointment of a new beneficiary organisation will be finalised by December 2021.
